| This course is for students who have had previous instruction on a woodwind, brass or percussion instrument either in elementary school or through private lessons. The course will focus on the improvement of reading skills, tone quality, range, interpretation, performance and technical skill development. |

| Instrumental Music - Beginning Band |

| This course is for all students who would like to learn to play a woodwind, brass or percussion instrument. No experience is necessary. The basic steps of learning how to play a musical instrument will be taught. |

| Vocal Music |

|
| This course can either be a continuation or the beginning of vocal music. No experience is necessary. The course will focus on proper vocal production, breathing technique, diction, the materials and elements of music and a wide variety of musical repertoire. |

| This course is the performance complement to any of our Instrumental or Vocal Music Courses. It is the performance and repertoire component and will run non-semestered throughout the entire year. Classes will be organized before and/or after the regular school day and will concentrate on the reading and performance of repertoire for either concert band or choir. Participation in the Concert Band, Wind Ensemble or the Concert Choir is a course requirement. Ensembles will perform regularly at evening concerts, music festivals and assemblies. Evaluation of repertoire performed will take place in the form of semester-end practical examinations. |

| This course develops further skills on woodwind, brass or percussion instruments for those students who have had success in Grade 9 Music instruction. This course will focus on the production of musicianship, good tone quality, blend, tuning and balance. |

| Students will continue to refine their basic vocal technique as well as be given the opportunity for solo and small ensemble work. Individual and group projects, music history, sightsinging and ear training will be stressed. |

| This course is for the student who is interested in learning to play or continue studies on the guitar. Instruction will include reading guitar music, tuning, single line melodies, strumming, ear training, listening, music history and theory. Participants of this course are required to provide their own acoustic / classical guitar. |

| This University/College preparatory course advances the work of previous Instrumental Music - Band courses and provides the opportunity for musical growth through technical ability. The music of the great classical, contemporary and popular masters will become more accessible as techniques improve. Emphasis will be placed upon phrasing, articulation, dynamic control, across the band listening and tuning. |
