GRADUATE FALL INFORMATION PACKAGE
Congratulations! This is your graduation year. This is the year where you will be making choices whether it is continuing your education at a post-secondary institution or going directly into the workforce. The onus is on you to explore all choices available and make your final decisions based on accurate research.
Choosing a post-secondary education institution and program that is right for you is a critical step in your life. This package is the initial information you need to start the application process. There are many Guidance workshops and University/College sessions offered for you to obtain more information.
We will be having a post-secondary fair at SWMSS on Wednesday October 25th, 2008 in the evening. Representatives from the universities and colleges and other workforce opportunities will be in attendance. This is a valuable opportunity to speak to someone directly from a post-secondary institution to ask questions and get information.
It is also highly recommended that you visit the campus of the college/university that you may be interested in attending. There are often special dates for these tours and these dates can be found on each post-secondary school's website.
The York Region Guidance Services web site is a great resource and has an extensive amount of information regarding post-secondary application. It has links to all the universities and colleges as well as the application centres in Guelph. It lists such topics as financial assistance information, on-line application, as well as many other relevant topics.
Staying informed is your responsibility
To help Mulock potential grads stay in the loop the guidance department has an easy way to help you manage your time and information. You are encouraged to become a member of Mulock's Grad E-group.
Also, make sure you check the University/College bulletin board outside the Guidance office for current notices. Individual appointments can also be booked with a Guidance counsellor in the Guidance Department.
Also, if you are graduating this year, please be sure fill out the Potential Graduating Student Information form in the Guidance office.
FULL DISCLOSURE
All grade 11 and 12 courses and grades will appear on an Ontario student's transcripts including all attempts at courses. Courses dropped more than 5 days after the midterm report will be assigned a "W" (withdrawn) and a grade will still appear on the transcript.
The statement provided by the Ontario Universities council on Admissions is as follows:
"Ontario universities support the full disclosure of all marks achieved in all attempts at a secondary school course. In its literature, each university should state clearly how it will treat repeated course marks in considering students".
IT IS UP TO YOU TO CHECK EACH UNIVERSITY'S POLICY ON REPEATED COURSES. IT CAN VARY DEPENDING ON THE PROGRAM YOU ARE APPLYING TO.
